MOREHEAD CITY -- West Carteret's Cody Washington scored 21 points, including five three-pointers as the Patriots claimed a 58-53 win over Goldsboro in Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference play on Monday.

With the loss, Goldsboro dropped to 11-12 overall and 5-10 in conference play heading into today's road clash at rival Southern Wayne.

Adam Wright led the Cougars with 14 points, including two three-pointers. Daquan Joyner added 12 points and two threes in the loss.

Brandon Bryant scored 15 points for West Carteret, while Drew Poulk added 10 points for the Patriots.

MOREHEAD CITY -- Goldsboro's girls basketball team defeated West Carteret on the road Monday by an unreported score.

Eagles drop

first conference game

Wayne Christian's Ashley Longwell posted 17 points as the Eagles' girls basketball team dropped its first Carolina Christian 1-A Conference game on Monday against Village Christian.

Despite the loss, Wayne Christian (13-10 overall) will still enter the conference tournament on Feb. 20-21 as the top seed at 10-1 in conference play.

Jennica Botonis and Leah Horton scored eight points each in the loss.

The Eagles travel to Trinity Christian of Greenville tonight in their final non-conference game of the season.

On Friday, Wayne Christian toppled Norlina 51-19. Jessica Chong scored 13 points, while Longwell and Botonis scored eight points each.
