Free-throws proved a huge difference in the outcome of Rosewood's clash at home with North Johnston Friday.

The Panthers made 82 percent of their foul shots, knocking down 14-of-17 on the game. The Eagles made just four-of-18 from the stripe, 22 percent.

Jake Lomonaco led all scorers with 22 points for North Johnston (9-12 overall), who improved to 4-6 in Class 1-A Carolina Conference play heading into the final week of the regular season. The Panthers and North Duplin, both with four wins, sit in a dead-heat for the conference's fourth and final state playoff spot.

Rosewood (4-13 overall) dropped to 2-7 in conferece play and is not eliminated from playoff contention with a three-game stretch next week, beginning Tuesday at North Duplin. North Johnston hosts league-leading Ayden-Grifton on Tuesday.

"We let one slip away at home. We didn't play real well down the stretch, I didn't think," Rosewood coach Daniel Mitchell said.

Danny Langston paced Rosewood with 11 points.

Rebels struggle

on boards

FARMVILLE -- Farmville Central pulled down 26 defensive rebounds on the game and came away with a 71-59 victory over North Duplin on Friday.

"I thought they (Farmville) did a fantastic job on the boards on us, and we had some turnovers at crucial times," North Duplin coach Ricky Edwards said.

The Jaguars improved to 7-10 overall and 6-3 against Class 1-A Carolina Conference competition.

North Duplin (6-10) fell to 4-7 in conference play heading into Tuesday's home clash with Rosewood.

Matt Braswell and Saladeem Dewberry paced North Duplin with 17 points each. Dewberry also had five steals, five assists and six rebounds.

Demarco Kornegay pulled down 10 rebounds for the Rebels.

Farmville's Javius Dixon led his team with 16 points.

finishes strong

PINETOPS -- Greene Central got balanced scoring efforts and erased a 16-point fourth period deficit to claim a big, 65-62 Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference win over SouthWest Edgecombe on Friday.

Charles Gamble and Teddie Waters led the Rams (10-12, 4-4 EPC 2-A) with 13 points each, while Dreyon Willis added 12.

Greene Central's half-court trap caused problems for the Cougars in the fourth period as the Ram offense became more patient and got better looks at the basket.

The Rams shot 15 free-throws compared to just five for SouthWest.

Greene Central travels to Tarboro High on Tuesday.

Hardison leads

Rosewood to win

Rosewood's Zach Hardison scored 20 points as the Eagles came away with a 61-41 win over North Johnston at home on Friday.

Clarence Toran and Brantley Ellis added 10 points each for the Eages, who improved to 2-7 in Class 1-A Carolina Conference play heading into Tuesday's match-up at North Duplin.

unbeaten in CPIC

ROCKY MOUNT -- Wayne Country Day's Brian Brock taillied 16 points for the Chargers, who moved to 10-4 overall and 5-0 in Coastal Plains Independent Conference 1-A play with a 75-29 win at Rocky Mount Academy.

Sam Steed added 13 points, while Chad Roberson added 10 and Byron Bryan had eight.

The Chargers host Rocky Mount Academy on Wednesday.

Spring Creek falls

after comeback

FARMVILLE -- Spring Creek lost to Farmville Central 78-77 Thursday after fighting back from a deficit to send the game into overtime.

Cliff Wilson led the Gators (14-5, 8-2) with a career-high of 30 points, while Dalress Bell finished with 22.

Middle Schools

WCDS 36, Rocky Mount Academy 15 -- Cameron Strickland scored 18 points, while David Wilson posted 10 points. The Chargers (5-3, 5-0 CPIC 1-A) host RMA on Wednesday.
