LEXINGTON -- Rosewood's bid for its third consecutive trip to the Class 1-A Eastern Regional championship ended abruptly Tuesday evening on the West Davidson campus.

Defending state champion South Davidson rallied from an 17-point deficit and eliminated the Eagles 39-31 in the opening round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association dual-team playoffs. West beat South in their second-round matchup and opposes Heide Trask in the eastern title match today.

Rosewood (20-7) dropped the first match of the evening and then pulled off five straight victories.

Bryce Havenook (130 pounds), Brandon Enriquez (140) and Alan Corbett (145) each earned a decision. Senior captain Aaron Lynch (152) collected a technical fall, while Shane Ogburn (135) pinned his opponent with nine seconds left in the first period.

That gave the Eagles a 20-3 advantage with eight matches to go.

South Davidson prevailed in five of the next six matches and took the lead when its heavyweight pinned Clayton Taylor in 1 minute, 27 seconds. Rosewood's lone victory during that stretch was Markus Brunson's second-period pin at 189.

Rosewood junior Ramsey Brown closed the gap to 33-31 when he picked up a second-period pin.
