Rosewood wrestling ends season vs. S. Davidson

LEXINGTON -- Rosewood's bid for its third consecutive trip to the Class 1-A Eastern Regional championship ended abruptly Tuesday evening on the West Davidson campus.
Defending state champion South Davidson rallied from an 17-point deficit and eliminated the Eagles 39-31 in the opening round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association dual-team playoffs. West beat South in their second-round matchup and opposes Heide Trask in the eastern title match today.
Rosewood (20-7) dropped the first match of the evening and then pulled off five straight victories.
Bryce Havenook (130 pounds), Brandon Enriquez (140) and Alan Corbett (145) each earned a decision. Senior captain Aaron Lynch (152) collected a technical fall, while Shane Ogburn (135) pinned his opponent with nine seconds left in the first period.
That gave the Eagles a 20-3 advantage with eight matches to go.
South Davidson prevailed in five of the next six matches and took the lead when its heavyweight pinned Clayton Taylor in 1 minute, 27 seconds. Rosewood's lone victory during that stretch was Markus Brunson's second-period pin at 189.
Rosewood junior Ramsey Brown closed the gap to 33-31 when he picked up a second-period pin.
South Davidson finished off the Eagles for third straight year with a second-period pin at 119.

Rosewood drops Lady Raiders
SPIVEYS CORNER -- Rosewood's Kasie Braswell dropped in 13 points as the Eagles defeated Midway 48-42 on Wednesday.
Kasey Grey added 10 points for the Eagles, who improved to 9-3 on the season.
Midway's Jessica Tyndall tallied 10 points for the Raiders.
Rosewood travels to Farmville Central in Class 1-A Carolina Conference play on Feb. 12.
Junior High
Community Christian 26, Wayne Christian 22 -- Eric Williams scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Eagles, who improved to 12-4 on the season. Wayne Christian plays its final game of the season on Feb. 9 against St. Mary's at the Clifford Gymnasium.
