DEEP RUN -- Paul Novicki hit two crucial free throws with eight seconds left as South Lenoir knocked off Greene Central 52-47 in Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference action Thursday.

The Blue Devils led 47-41 with less than two minutes remaining. The Rams' Clifton Chapman trimmed the deficit in half with a 3-pointer. Teammate Kenny Smith added a shot in the lane which made it 48-47, but Greene Central wouldn't score again.

Novicki's free throws and a late Rams turnover secured the Blue Devils' third EPC victory of the season. South Lenoir improved to 12-6 overall heading into tonight's game against state-ranked North Lenoir.

Greene Central (9-10) fell to 3-2 in the league.

"We held them to two two point field goals (in the final period), but they shot 18 free throws to our four," said Greene Centrtal coach Kevin Hart. "It was exteremely frustrating."

Chargers drop contest on road

FAYETTEVILLE -- Wayne Country Day watched a nine-point lead slip away in a 55-48, non-conference loss against Trinity Christian on Thursday evening.

The Chargers led 39-30, but hit the skids on offense. Trinity finished the game with a 25-9 run and handed Wayne Country Day its third consecutive defeat.

Spenser Briggs paced WCDS with 26 points. Shivar Person added seven. The Chargers played without guard Oscar Ball, who sustained a high-ankle injury against Flora MacDonald. Coach Steve Weir's team is 0-3 without Ball on the court.

Wayne Country Day (8-5) entertains Trinity Christian of Raleigh today.

Faith Christian nips Falls Road

ROCKY MOUNT -- John Spencer shot 50 percent from the floor as Faith Christian slipped past Falls Road Baptist 34-32 in a N.C. Christian Schools Association Coastal 2-A Region battle Thursday.

Spencer collected 11 points on 5-of-10 shooting for the Conquerors, who evened their record at 2-2 against regional/conference opposition.

Adam Stallings led Falls Road with 14 points.

Faith Christian (9-4) travels to Gateway (Va.) Christian on Saturday.

Warriors pull out ECC win in OT

Monty Best and Landon Downes each tallied 20 points each as Eastern Wayne survived West Craven 72-69 in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference action Tuesday.

The Warriors (7-8, 6-6 ECC) travel to county rival Goldsboro next Tuesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
