Spring Creek nearly hits century mark

CALYPSO -- Spring Creek came out gunning and nearly hit 100 points as the Gators chomped North Duplin 99-66 Friday night in a key Carolina 1-A Conference clash at the Rebels' gym.
"They shot the ball extremely well, especially in the first half," said North Duplin coach Ricky Edwards. "They had four threes in the first quarter alone."
The Gators led 50-25 after one period of play and kept the offensive pressure on all game, with 10 three-point baskets. Josh Bishop had 31 points in the win, one of four Spring Creek players in double figures. Grey Wilson and Shane Stevenson combined for five threes and 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Chargers struggle in fourth period
HENDERSON -- Wayne Country Day's Spenser Briggs scored 16 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as the Chargers fell 50-37 at Kerr-Vance on Friday.
The loss drops Wayne Country Day (8-4) to 1-2 in Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference play.
The Chargers, who defeated the Spartans in their first meeting, trailed just 36-34 after three periods, but managed just three points in the fourth.
Kris Exum added eight points for Wayne Country Day, who travels to Faith Christian-Rocky Mount on Tuesday.

Yutzy scores 43 but Bulldogs fall
PRINCETON -- Karter Yutzy scored a whopping 43 points for Princeton Friday night, but it was not enough to stop an offensive onslaught by Ayden-Grifton in a 96-67 Carolina 1-A Conference win for the Chargers.
Five Chargers scored in double figures in the contest, led by Tyshawn Hall's 22 points. Jamal Rouse added 17 and Jeremy McGee, who scored 13 of his 16 points in a 27-16 run in the second period, was next. Robbie Phillips and Leon May each had 11.
"We didn't play near as bad as we did last time we played them, but they just shot the lights out," Princeton coach Jeff Davis.
The Bulldogs (2-14, 0-6) will next play Smithfield-Selma on Monday in Princeton.

GREENVILLE -- Trinity Christian of Greenville pulled away from Faith Christian Academy during the second half of a 71-54 victory on Friday night.
Chris Wallace scored 23 points for Trinity (12-2) while Justin Willoughby added 18.

Jaguars hold off game Eagles
FARMVILLE -- Farmville Central ran out to a big lead, then held off a game Rosewood squad in a 66-59 Carolina 1-A Conference victory.
The Jaguars raced out to a 23-8 lead, but Rosewood (4-9, 2-3) didn't just roll over, steadily chipping away at Farmville Central's lead.
Rosewood began the second half on a 10-2 run, capped off by two free throws by Taylor Carr that made the deficit 33-32. But Justin Foskey stepped up and drilled two jump shots to put Farmville Central in front 38-32 and the Jags held on the rest of the way.
"We fought hard and played hard in the second half, but we just couldn't find a way to take the lead," Rosewood coach Daniel Mitchell said.
Offensively, Foskey finished with a game-high 20 points while Adrian Hunter added 16.
Carr had 14 points for Rosewood.

Rams charge from behind
SNOW HILL -- Trailing by 17 points with just over six minutes left, Greene Central's Teddy Waters scored 12 of his 13 points in the fourth period as the Rams claimed a 74-70 comeback win at home over Tarboro.
The win improves Greene Central to 9-9 overall and 3-1 in Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference play heading into Tuesday's clash at South Lenoir.
Jordy Davis, Junior Kesselbach and Clifton Chapman added 13 points each in the win.
Marcus Cherry paced Tarboro (3-13, 0-4) with 13 points.

WILSON -- Jake Lomonaco's 18-point effort was in vain as North Johnston fell 76-53 to Wilson Beddingfield in a non-conference matchup Friday night.
Beddingfield ran off a 15-0 lead in the opening period and never looked back as the Panthers also picked up 18 from Brian Holloman.
The Panthers will host North Duplin Tuesday.

Goldsboro throttles Washington
Tim Kornegay led three players in double figures as Goldsboro throttled Washington 93-65 in an Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference matchup Friday.
Kornegay shot 80 percent (8-of-10) at the free throw line for the Cougars, who improved to 13-2 overall and 10-1 against conference opposition.
JaiKelvin Maye complemented Kornegay's effort with 23 points. Brandon Herring chipped in 13.
In all, 10 Goldsboro players scratched in the scoring column.
Chris Moore led the Pam Pack with 17.
Washington (3-10) is 1-9 in the ECC.
Goldsboro entertains Wilson Beddingfield on Jan. 29. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
Patriots dump Eastern Wayne
West Carteret ran off to a 59-48 win over Eastern Wayne Friday night. The Patriots' C.J. Fallin led all scorers with 14 points.
Eastern Wayne's Landon Downes and Neil Robinson shared team-high honors with eight points each.
Chargers unbeaten in CPIC
HENDERSON -- Wayne Country Day's Shadow Stewart scored 13 points as Wayne Country Day defeated Kerr-Vance 44-43 in Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference action Friday.
Bryan Brock added 10 points for the Chargers (6-3, 3-0 CPIC), who take on Faith Christian of Rocky Mount on the road on Tuesday.
Middle schools
Eastern Wayne 72, Greenwod 24 -- Floronta Wynn scored 19 points and dished out 10 assists for Eastern Wayne, who clinched the Division I championship with the win. Reco McCarter added 14 points, while Dwight Ulmer scored 11 points. Orlando Midgette pulled down eight rebounds and had five steals. Greenwood was led by Diviyon Whisonant with 14 points. The Warriors improved to 13-0 on the season.
