WASHINGTON -- Eastern Wayne overcame a slow start at Washington to overcome the Pam Pack 62-45 in Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference play on Tuesday.

The Warriors (11-4, 9-1 ECC 3-A) trailed 27-20 at the half, but went on to outscore Washington 42-18 after intermission to pull away.

"We had a slow start, but we managed to pull some things together in the second half we responded well," Eastern Wayne coach Marvin Bowman said.

The win was fueled by increased defensive intensity on the Pam Pack's guards and a solid, 18-22 shooting performance from the free-throw line.

Eastern Wayne's Derrick Joyner tallied a team-high 16 points, including eight-for-10 from the line. While, Adrian Kendrick added 14 points and hit eight-of-nine.

The Warriors return home on Friday to take on West Carteret.

Chargers suffer first

CPIC loss

WILSON -- Wayne Country Day's Kris Exum scored 15 points, but the Chargers fell 68-50 at Greenfield School on Tuesday in Coastal Plains Independent Conference 1-A play.

The Chargers (8-3, 1-1 CPIC 1-A) also got a 10-point effort from Spenser Briggs.

Greenfield (12-4, 1-1) was led by Errol Frails with 20 points and Austin Bass with 19 points.

Wayne Country Day continues conference action at Kerr-Vance on Friday.

Saints suffer

road loss

WINTERVILLE -- Southern Wayne's Artimus Quick scored a game-high 27 points as the Saints fell 69-61 on Tuesday at South Central.

Akeem Royal added 18 points for the Saints, who fell to 7-9 overall and 4-6 in the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference.

Reggie Harper scored 11 for Southern Wayne.

South Central's Montell Smith scored a team-high 24 points to lead South Central (5-10, 4-5).

The Saints return to action on Friday at home against Charles B. Aycock .

BETHEL -- Ryan Little scored seven points in the fourth period and added another four in overtime as North Pitt outlasted North Lenoir 66-62 in a key Eastern Plains Conference boys' basketball game.

The Panthers (2-1, 11-3 EPC 2-A) jumped out to an early 13 point lead over the Hawks (1-2, 12-4 EPC 2-A), only to slip back by as many as three in the last quarter.

But Little, who had 31 points, hit a trey with 2:18 left to tie the game at 55-55. North Lenoir's Kevin Lee made a basket at the other end and was fouled by Jeremy Wilder, but failed to convert the three-point play. That allowed Andre Williams to hit with 37 seconds remaining, tying the game once more at 57-57.

Justin Dunn missed the Hawks' final try, sending the game into overtime.

In the extra period, Little put North Pitt up 59-57 with 3:11 to go, then added a jumper for a 61-58 lead and the Panthers were never caught again.

Dewberry has

career night

NEWTON GROVE -- North Duplin's Saladeem Dewberry scored a career-high 29 points to guide the Rebels to a 67-64 non-conference win at Hobbton on Wednesday.

Demarco Kornegay added 18 points, while Montreal Garner scored 14 points.

"We really played together well and really played hard," North Duplin coach Ricky Edwards said. "Defensive wise, I thought we did a good job. Saladeem and Demarco played very well."

The Rebels shot 21-for-29 at the free-throw line.

North Duplin travels to Spring Creek on Friday.

SW Edgecombe

SNOW HILL -- Devyn Brewington pumped in a game-high 24 points as Greene Central throttled SouthWest Edgecombe 62-43 in an Eastern Plains 2-A Conference contest Tuesday.

Brewington buried four 3-pointers as the Rams climbed to 9-3 overall and 2-1 against EPC opposition. Teammate Reggie Johnson chipped in 13, while Steven Phillips added seven.

Linwood Euwell led three Cougars in double figures with 11 points. Tyler Cannon and Tony Wilkins each contributed 10.

SouthWest fell to 0-3 in the EPC.

Princeton rallies

to top Rosewood

Princeton rallied form a 10-point deficit in the final period to beat Rosewood 42-37 Tuesday. Princeton's Patrick Gatewood led all scorers with 24 points.

Rosewood got 13 points from Zach Hardison and 10 from Trey Kriger.

The Eagles (1-4 Carolina 1-A) take on Farmville on Friday.

Brock paces

WCDS over Greenfield

Wayne Country Day's Brian Brock scored 18 points as the Chargers topped Greenfield 52-45 on Tuesday.

Lamar Carpenter added nine points for Wayne Country Day (7-3, 2-0 CPIC 1-A).

The Chargers travel to Kerr-Vance on Friday.

Warriors balanced

in OT win

WASHINGTON -- Eastern Wayne's Neil Robinson scored 21 points to guide the Warriors to a 76-65 win over Washington on Wednesday.

Michael Wilcox added 13 points, while Landon Downs added 12 and Monty Best added 11 points.

The Warriors (6-8, 5-5 ECC 3-A) take on West Carteret at home on Friday.

Hawks fall at

North Pitt

BETHEL -- North Pitt beat North Lenoir 72-49 as Antwan Williams led the Panthers with 27 points and 12 rebounds.

Antwaine Wiggins had 17 for North Lenoir.

Sasser solid

in Faith win

Faith Christian's T.J. Sasser scored 15 points as the Conquerors claimed a 47-31 win over Liberty Christian Academy of Durham.

Faith Christian (7-4, 2-3 Mid-Atlantic Christian 2-A) shot 50 percent from the floor and will travel to Greenville on Friday to take on Trinity Christian Academy.
