Charger varsities sweep Flora MacDonald

RED SPRINGS -- Spenser Briggs poured in a game-high 24 points as Wayne Country Day eased past Flora MacDonald 55-46 in a non-conference contest Saturday evening.
Kevin Logan, Chris Exum and Shivar Person complemented Briggs' effort with six points each.
The Chargers improved to 8-2 overall.
Christin Grubb tallied a game-high 12 points as the Charger girls upset the Cougars for the second time this season 34-30. Flora MacDonald entered the game ranked among the state's top five teams in the latest N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association Class 1-A poll.
Carolyn Ziemer added seven points for Wayne Country Day, which captured its third victory in 10 tries.
Ten of 11 players scored at least one point as the Chargers emerged victorious 60-19 in the junior varsity boys game.
Shadow Stewart led all scorers with 10 points. Teammates Chad Roberson, Lamar Carpenter and Brian Brock each contributed eight points.
The JV girls avenged an earlier loss to the Cougars by picking up a 20-15 win. Molly Peacock and Louise Northington paced Wayne Country Day with nine and seven points, respectively.
All four Charger teams travel to Greenfield for a Coastal Plains Independent Conference encounter Tuesday.
