Reusch wins three events as Rosewood shades North Johnston

Rosewood's Jeremy Reusch prevailed in three events, helping the Eagles nip North Johnston 61-53 in a Class 1-A Carolina Conference indoor track meet.

Reusch recorded a first-place mark of 5 feet, 6 inches in the high jump. He completed the 500 meters in 1 minute, 16 seconds; and captured the 55 hurdles in 9.5 seconds. Reusch also ran the anchor leg as the Eagles captured the 1,600 relay.

Fellow Eagles Robert Rast (pole vault), Troy Smith (shot put) and Chris Holmes (triple jump) each picked up a first-place win.

The Panthers triumphed in six events, including the 3,200 relay.

North Johnston's girls escaped with a 49-47 win. Shirlita Anderson (long jump), Heather Creech (1,600) and Martha Godwin (55 hurdles) each turned in a solid performance.

Rosewood's Sa'Coya Cox took individual wins in the shot put, 55 meters and 300 meters. Teammate Kerry Garner finished as the top runner in the 500 meters.

The Eagles opened the season with a sweep against county foe Spring Creek. The boys rolled to an 80-31 decision, while the girls doubled up the Gators 65-32.

Rast, Reusch, Smith, Brandon Briggs, James Reusch and Calcote each picked up individual wins for Rosewood. Coach Daniel Baynes' team also swept the 1,600 and 3,200 relays.

Garner, Cox, Kayce Brantham and Heather Murray each won at least one individual event. Brantham grabbed first-place finishes in the 1,600, 3,200 and 1,000 meter runs.

Cox won the 55 and 300. Garner secured first in the 500 meters and Murray emerged the top 55-meter hurdler.
