EUGENE E. ANGSTADT

Eugene Edward “Gene” Angstadt, 81, Goldsboro, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2018, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family.
Gene was born in Atlantic City, N.J., April 26, 1937, to the late Charles Millard and Dorothy Bowen Angstadt.
He retired from the United States Army after 27 years of service, 20 of which were served with the Special Forces Unit.
Gene was a member of Saulston United Methodist Church.
He brought joy, laughter and love to his family and the many others he met. Gene’s life was one of service to his country and community.
A service to celebrate Gene’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018, in the sanctuary of Saulston United Methodist Church, with pastor Howard James officiating.
The family will greet friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.
Interment will be in Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
Gene is survived by his stepsons, Ronald Earl Prince and wife, Marcia, of Goldsboro, Michele Ernest Prince and wife, Patricia, of Wrightsville Beach and Samuel Owen Prince and wife, Linda, of Virginia Beach, Va.; sister, Joan Hettenbach of Rio Grande, N.J.; four grandchildren, Ronald Jeffrey Prince and wife, Jenny, Megan Prince Worrell, Michelle Prince Calagis and husband, Chris, and Bevin Prince Friend and husband, Will; seven great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Helen Jones.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Lina Stanaland Angstadt, and six brothers.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given in Gene’s memory to Saulston United Methodist Church, 4620 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
