RUTH GRANTHAM COLLINGS

Evie Ruth Grantham Collings, 83, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2018, surrounded by her loving and faithful family after a lengthy illness.

Ruth was born in Auburn, Alabama, on March 2, 1935, to the late Lidie Vera LeSueur and Howard Grady LeSueur. She was a graduate of Auburn University where she received a B.S. in home economics and became a registered dietitian. Ruth later attended East Carolina University where she received her master’s degree. She began her career at Wayne Memorial Hospital and later retired from Cherry Hospital after 30 years of service as their director of dietary services. Following her retirement, Ruth served as a public health dietitian at the Eastern Regional Office for the Division of Public Health Services.

Ruth was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Goldsboro. As a devoted member of her church, she served as a Sunday school teacher and was involved in many activities where she utilized her gifts and abilities to share the love of God. She had also been a member of the Eastern Star. Ruth will be remembered by her family as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who was truly a blessing to them all.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018, from 1 to 2 p.m. in the church parlor of First Baptist Church in Goldsboro followed by a service to celebrate Ruth’s life at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary with her pastor, Dr. Glenn Phillips, officiating. Interment will be in Willow Dale Cemetery.

Ruth is survived by her son, John M. Grantham and wife Karen of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Jennifer Shepard and husband Jordan of Hampstead, Molly Grantham of Raleigh and John William “Will” Grantham of Baltimore, M.D.; brothers, Homer G. LeSueur and wife Mary Jo of Hiram, Georgia, and William Larry LeSueur and wife Debora of Centre, Alabama; as well as several nieces and nephews she loved very much.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, William Hiram Grantham III and their infant son, Howard Grantham; her second husband, Col. Kenneth L. Collings; and her sister and brother-in-law, Teresa and Moore Burns.
