Kevin Wayne Palaganas, 35, passed away Saturday morning at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family.

A service to celebrate Kevin’s life will be held on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Rosewood First Baptist Church, with Dr. Mike officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Kevin was born in Newport News, Virginia, on Jan. 16, 1983, to Tony and Mary Jane Palaganas of Goldsboro. He was a graduate of Rosewood High School and attended Wayne Community College and later graduated from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Kevin received his master’s in classical guitar from East Carolina University. He had been working as a teacher assistant for the Knox County School System and was a member of Antioch Community Church in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Kevin was a man of incredible faith in God, hope for the world, and love for others. He will be remembered as a generous, caring, compassionate man that had a great love for music. More than anything else, Kevin was devoted to his wife of five years and their daughter.

In addition to his parents, Kevin is survived by his wife, Ashley Palaganas; daughter and the apple of his eye, Hope Alia; brothers, Michael Scott and wife, Karen, of Mebane and Austin Scott and wife Gena of Goldsboro; his sisters, Patty Kennedy and husband, Jimmy, of Athens, Ga., and Dee Humphries and husband, Donnie, of Atlanta, Ga.; his mother-in-law, Lisa Slaughter; and several nieces and nephews he loved very much.

Kevin was preceded in death by his brother, Benjamin R. “Buddy” Palaganas; paternal grandfather, Antonio Palaganas; his maternal grandmother, Essie A. Tucker; and an uncle, Pepe Palaganas.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at his home and the home of his parents.
