DEE JOHNSON

April 26, 1927-Sept. 2, 2018

William Dewey “Dee” Johnson, 91, Kenly, passed away peacefully Sunday, Sept. 2, 2018, at his home while surrounded by his family.

Dee was born in the community of Pinkney April 26, 1927, to his parents, Dewey and Mary Johnson, and where he was currently living with his wife.

He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II.

Dee retired from the water treatment plant at Cherry Hospital, but his first and favorite occupation, however, was a farmer, and many of his happiest times were spent atop one of his tractors on the family farm or looking after his herd of Black Angus cows.

Dee also enjoyed working as a building contractor after his retirement.

He was a member of Union Grove Free Will Baptist Church, and was instrumental in many aspects of the building and renovations at the church.

Dee was a retired member of the Little River Fire Department.

Dee was a true sportsman, most comfortable outdoors. He enjoyed bird hunting and loved walking in the woods and fields with a gun and one of his bird dogs.

Dee also played baseball in his early years, and always enjoyed watching a good game.

A service to celebrate Dee’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, 2018, in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with his pastor, the Rev. John Massengill, officiating.

The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.

Interment will conclude the service in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Dee is survived by his wife, Marvel Emory Johnson and her children, David Emory and wife, Diane, and Lisa Emory Hawkins and husband, Donny.

He is also survived by his sisters, Christine Beamon of Goldsboro and Irene Futrell of Chocowinity.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie Aycock Johnson, and sisters, Ruby Beamon and Pauline Johnson.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Union Grove Free Will Baptist Church, 1283 Union Grove Church Road, Fremont, N.C., 27830.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.seymourfuneralhome.com.
