Irene Thomas Nunn, 93, passed away suddenly on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018, at her home.
Irene was born in Wayne County on Aug. 20, 1925, to the late John H. and Sallie Peele Thomas. She was married to the late Ralph Elisha Nunn Jr. Irene was a dedicated employee of Southern Bell where she worked as an operator and retired after 33 years of service. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and her church, Saulston United Methodist Church.
A service to celebrate Irene’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2018, by the graveside at Wayne Memorial Park. The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the cemetery.
Irene is survived by her daughter, Wanda N. Dawson and husband, Jerry, of Pikeville; grandchildren, Gary Edwards and wife, Lynda, of New Bern, and Stacy Drummond and husband, Matthew, of Fremont; great-grandchildren, Brandon Carrier, Tiffinie Putman, Karley Kearney and Jacob Drummond; and great-great-grandchildren, Shalyn Putman, Marquis Putman and Berkley Carrier. She is also survived by her sisters, Frances Nunn of Raleigh and Jewel Ray of Virginia.
