MARY PATTEN

Mary Patten, 83, died Saturday, July 28, 2018, at Heritage Woods Assisted Living Facility in Winston Salem, after a brief illness.
Mrs. Patten was the only child of the late William Mason and Lucille Bowden Baugham.
She graduated Valedictorian from Faison High School in 1952. She graduated with honors from King College in Bristol, Tenn., with a B. A. in Education. She taught school in Hampton, Va.; Raleigh, N.C.; Symrna, N.C.; and retired from teaching from Morehead City, N.C.
Mrs. Patten was an avid reader, gardener, and accomplished artist. She made and sold custom designed earrings in her retirement. She also enjoyed knitting and square dancing.
She was active in both the Faison Presbyterian and First Presbyterian Church (Morehead City, N.C.).
Mrs. Patten is survived by her husband of 60 years, Donald William Patten;brother-in-law, Brent Harley Patten and wife, Carmita, of Greenwich, N.Y. and Faison, N.C.; a cousin, Anne Mosley Wilson and husband, Boyd, of Raleigh, N.C.
Mrs. Patten is also survived by her daughter, Janet Patten Pruneau (Chris); and son, Jeffrey William Patten (Sarah); four grandchildren, Rosemary and William Pruneau and Alex and Abby Patten.
Funeral will be Wednesday, August 1, at 11 a.m. at Faison Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Lyle Brickhouse officiating. Interment will follow in Faison Cemetery. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service, from 10 to 11 a.m. in the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Faison Presbyterian Church, 502 W. Main St., Faison, N.C., 28341 or to one’s favorite charity.
Arrangements are by Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home, of Clinton.
