SYLVIA H. SCOTT

Dec. 28, 1936-Nov. 11, 2017

Sylvia Jean Hardee Scott, 80, Goldsboro, passed away Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family.

Sylvia was born in Robeson County Dec. 28, 1936, to the late Stanley and Ruby Prevatte Hardee.

She was married to Edward Earl "Ed" Scott, and supported her husband as a military wife for 21 years. Ed preceded her in death July 12, 2016.

Prior to his death, Sylvia tirelessly devoted herself as his daily caregiver -- he was her world and the love of her life.

Following his retirement from the Air Force and her work with the school system as a volunteer nurse, they founded and operated Scott Heating and Air Conditioning until their retirement in 1995.

Her warmth, generosity and kind spirit were well known and cherished by those she encountered throughout her life.

A member of Falling Creek Baptist Church, she loved the beach, fishing, animals, helping others and her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They will remember her as a true Christian lady, who loved God, but who also enjoyed spending time with and money on them.

Before her declining health, Sylvia found joy in the simple pleasures of volunteering at school and with Girl Scouts and being active in her church, as well as her involvement with the Mar-Mac Community Ballpark.

Sylvia lived each day showing those around her what faith in action is all about.

A service to celebrate Sylvia's life will be Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Billy Webb officiating. Interment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Sylvia is survived by her daughters, Gail S. Hines and husband, Neal, of Augusta, Ga., Susan S. Gurganus and husband, Danny, of Mount Olive and Helen E. Scott of Grantham; son, Eddie Scott and wife, Luanne, of Goldsboro; nieces, Ann Graham and Cathy Lee both of Lumberton; and nephew, Michael Stallings.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Carrie Elizabeth Hines, Jennifer Brill Powell, Rometa Eber, Taylor Scott and Jessica Harrison; stepgrandchildren, Mandy Hutchinson and Blake Gurganus; three great-granddaughters; three great-grandsons; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Evelyn Stallings and Eloise Fleming.

The family will receive friends Monday, Nov. 13, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.

The family would like to thank Mama's caregivers, Irma Corbett, Jordan Barrow, Rhonda Teachey, Evelyn Corbett and Kaitlin Corbett for the love and compassion they gave her. Each one had a special bond with her, and we will never forget what they have done and the love they have given her.
