EMMA S. STEVENS

Emma Powell Stevens, 77, resident of the Grantham community, passed away late in the afternoon on Thursday, Sept. 28, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. As she drifted away from her body, stricken with disease, she gained a brand new heavenly body as she entered God's kingdom.
Known as "Pickle" since she was but a small girl, she was a lifelong resident of Mount Olive before she and her husband relocated to the Grantham area in 1997. Prior to their moving, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Mount Olive. After Grantham became their home, they united with Falling Creek Baptist Church. Mrs. Stevens was retired from Godwin Realty in Mount Olive where she was office manager and real estate broker for over 45 years.
Visitation will be held at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive from 4 until 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1, and at other times, at the residence. A service of worship to reflect upon the life of Mrs. Stevens will be Monday, Oct. 2, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Mount Olive, officiated by Dr. Dennis Atwood, with committal following in Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive. Mrs. Stevens is survived by her devoted husband, Everett A. Stevens; two daughters, Judy Stevens Redfearn of Jacksonville, and Jeannie Stevens Barwick and husband, John, of Seven Springs; three grandchildren, Emma Caitlyn Redfearn of Cedar Point, Joshua Chappell of Washington, D.C., and Wesley Redfearn of Swansboro; a great-grandson, John Latham Redfearn; brothers-in-law, Charles Stevens and wife, Freddie, Wilson Stevens, and Woodrow Stevens Jr. and wife, Sally; sisters-in-law, Shelby Powell, Shirley Powell, Virginia Fields, Libby Hooks and husband, Mike, Annette Stuart, and Janie Stevens; 22 nephews; 13 nieces; and numerous great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jerri Lynn Stevens; her parents, Willie Mae Martin Powell and Clarence Thomas Powell; two sisters, Verlie P. Odom and Pat P. Walker; four brothers, Swindell Powell and wife, Mozelle, Max Powell, Jimmy Powell, and C. W. "Dudgie" Barber; a sister-in-law, Barbara Grice; and a brother-in-law, David Stevens.
The family wishes to express special and sincere thanks and love to the staff of Kitty Askins Hospice Center for the excellent care and compassion provided.
