Ruth Bell Uzzell, 97, Goldsboro, peacefully passed away Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017.
Ruth was born April 2, 1920, in Duplin County to the late Axum Bell and Emma Waters Bell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Matthew Brantley Uzzell; brother, Jasper Waters Bell; paternal grandparents, Elias Bell and Latha Jones Bell; and maternal grandparents, Robert Nelson Waters and Sarah Jane Grant Waters.
Ruth attended Casey's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church for more than 50 years.
A graveside service to celebrate Ruth's life will be held Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017, at 4 p.m. from the Uzzell Family Cemetery, with the Rev. Tony McLamb officiating.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Gloria Uzzell Simpson (her friend, Mike); son, Monte Uzzell (his friend, Carolyn); four grandchildren, Gina Bryan (Paul), Monica Dale (Jay), Brantley Uzzell (Erica) and Joy Martens (Brian); six great-grandchildren, Luke Bryan, Jonathan Bryan, Ian Dale, Brinley Uzzell, Worth Uzzell and Goldie Martens; and a number of special nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home.
