Sarah Elizabeth Brewington Artis, 92, 211 Flowers Road, Mount Olive, died Saturday in Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
She was born May 22, 1924, in Mount Olive, N.C., to Ezekiel and Matte Leach Brewington.
She is survived by one sister, Dr. Margaret B. Parker of Mount Olive, N.C.; one brother, retired Col. Charlie Brewington; nieces; and other relatives.
She was a graduate of North Carolina Central University.
She taught in the Wayne County School System for 27 years at Dudley, Seven Springs and Spring Creek.
She was a member of St. Delight Church of Mount Olive.
A service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at The New St. Delight United Holy Church of Mount Olive, with Bishop Quincy Gardner Jr. and pastor Scottie Rodgers officiating. Burial will follow in First Congregational Church Cemetery of Dudley.
Visitation will be Friday from 2 to 6 p.m. at Haskins Funeral Home. At other times, the family will assemble at the residence, where it will assemble in preparation for the funeral procession.
Arrangements are by Haskins Funeral Home.
