MARY LEE POPE ALLEN

Jan. 27, 1923-Nov. 4, 2016

Mary Lee Holland Pope Allen, 93, Goldsboro, left this world to be with Jesus early Friday morning.

Mary Lee was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend whose love for life and others was apparent to all who met her.

Mary Lee was born in Wayne County Jan. 27, 1923, to the late Benjamin Harrison Holland and Mary Ann Pearce Holland.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Leon Glenn Pope and J.C. Allen.

Mary Lee was employed for many years with Nahunta Pork Center.

Mary Lee was a longtime member of Pike's Crossroads Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was devoted to her church, and was involved in many activities where she utilized her gifts and abilities to share the love of God.

She was loved by all who knew her. Mary Lee loved life and the life she had with her daughters and grandchildren. God had blessed her with all His love.

She will live forever in all our hearts. We will see her one day in heaven; she is at rest now in the arms of God. He was her strength and ours, too.

The family will receive friends, Sunday, Nov. 6, 2016, from 2 to 3 p.m. at Pikes Crossroads Pentecostal Holiness Church, followed by a service in the sanctuary celebrating Mary Lee's life at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Merrill Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Fremont.

Mary Lee is survived by her daughters, Rachel Wells and husband, Ralph, of Pikeville, Darnell P. Johnson and husband, Harry, of Dudley and Peggy P. Flowers and husband, Tommy, of Pikeville.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Penny Bradley (Barry), Cindy Neal (Doug), Jennifer Smith (David), Allen Johnson (Gayla), Jeff Johnson (Dana) and Tom Flowers (Nancy); great-grandchildren, Nicholas Neal, Tanner Bradley, Amber Johnson-Carter, Rachel Johnson McLaurin Austin Johnson, Jeff Johnson, Mac Johnson, Tonya Lane, Brittany McDougald, Nolan Flowers, Aveanna Flowers, Melissa Flowers, Dayjah Flowers and Tyler Flowers; and great-great-grandchildren, Nolan McLaurin and Olivia Grace Lane.

In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by a grandchild, baby Wells; five brothers; and five sisters.

We would like to give a very special thank you to the wonderful staff at The Pines/Brookdale for the love and care it provided for Mary Lee during these past years. Simple words cannot express our gratitude.
