Chester Carl Lamb Jr., Goldsboro, died Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center due to complications of pancreatic cancer.
Carl was born Sept. 5, 1928, in Macclesfield, N.C., to the late Chester Carl Lamb and Thelma Lucille Bridgers Lamb. He was married for 59 years to the late Sammie Rowe Lamb.
Carl served as a fighter pilot in the United States Air Force. He retired in 1978 as a colonel after 27 years of service, including one tour in the Korean War and two tours in the Vietnam War.
Among his many decorations, he received the Legion of Merit, the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Meritorious Service Medal.
He was an active member of Golden K Kiwanis Club. For 66 years he was a member in good standing of the Concord Masonic Lodge in Tarboro, N.C.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, at First Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Robert Bardin officiating.
Following the service, the family will greet friends in McChesney Hall at First Presbyterian Church.
Interment will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
Carl is survived by his dear friend, Edna Edwards Powell of Goldsboro; daughters, Terry Lamb and husband, Ray Monroe, of Burke, Va., and Suzanne L. Dougherty of Alexandria, Va.; grandchildren, Ramsey Lamb Monroe and husband, Cullen H. Shannon, Mitchell K. Monroe, Lt. Mark R. Dougherty, United States Marine Corps and wife, Sandra, and Sammie Diane Dougherty; and brother, James H. Lamb of Cottonwood, Ala.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church, 1101 E. Ash St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
