Alexander Bowden, 71, died Tuesday at Willow Creek Nursing Home.
Memorial service will be held later in Staten Island, N.Y.
He was born Sept. 24, 1941, in Lenoir County to Joseph E. and Minnie Black Bowden.
He is survived by a daughter.
Arrangements are by Haskins Funeral Home.
