JAY PAUL BARNES
Jay Paul Barnes, 89, of Fort George Hill, N.Y., formerly of Fremont, N.C., passed away at Kings Harbor Multi Care Center in Bronx, N.Y.
He was born Nov. 12, 1926, in Fremont, N.C., to the late George Hershel and Cora Coley Barnes.
He joined the United States Merchant Marines at the age of 18, and served for 42 years, traveling the world. During those years, he collected many treasures and artifacts from various countries.
Paul had a hardy appetite, and greatly appreciated and enjoyed the culture, as well as the cuisine, of many countries.
Paul is survived by one daughter, Brenda Barnes Stratton; one son, Lavelle Stockman; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; his sister, Ernestine Barnes of Goldsboro, N.C.; two brothers, George and Jack Barnes of Washington, D.C.; his former wife, Geraldine Barnes; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Funeral service will be held at noon Thursday, Dec. 31, 2015, at Hamilton Funeral Chapel.
Visitation will be held at 11 a.m., one hour prior to the service.
The Rev. Dr. Louis Leigh Jr., pastor of First African Baptist Church, will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park South, U.S. 117, Dudley, N.C., 28333.
