MARIE H. SHAW

Marie Hitchens Shaw, Mount Olive resident, joined her Creator Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015, after a brief illness. She was treated at Vidant Edgecombe Hospital in Tarboro, N.C., where she died.
She is survived by her son, Ryland H. Shaw Jr. and his wife, Linda R. Shaw, of Goldsboro, and their son, Samuel Alexander Shaw of the home. In addition, there are two other grandchildren, Ryland H. Shaw III and his wife, Lisa, and their son, Ryland H. Shaw IV, and twin daughters, Emmie and Cate Shaw, all of Daniel Island, S.C, and Mary Shaw Thacker and husband, Dr. Steven Thacker, and their two children, Ethan and Ellie Thacker, all of Savannah, Ga.
Marie was a graduate of Gaston High School in Gaston, N.C., where she met her husband, Ryland H. Shaw Sr. Following their marriage in 1947, Marie worked briefly as a dispatcher for the Roanoke Rapids Police Department, and as an office assistant at American Insurance Company in Greensboro. In 1966, her husband, Ryland, joined his brother, Breedlove Shaw in purchasing Glenn-Martin Drug Company in Mount Olive, and in this town, they both resided until their deaths.
Marie was a professional homemaker, specializing in excellent meal preparation and the care of an immaculate home. With a combination of beauty, style and grace, she served her family for a lifetime in a traditional Southern lifestyle. She leaves a hole in the family's hearts which will never be filled.
Funeral services for Mrs. Shaw will be Tuesday, Dec. 1, at 11 a.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive, to be officiated by the Rev. Barry Stallings, with burial to follow in Wayne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends today from 7 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home, and at other times, at the home of Ryland and Linda Shaw, 118 Point Shore Drive, Goldsboro, in the village of Walnut Creek.
