LIZZIE MAE ADAMS BEARD PACE

Feb. 17, 1925-Oct. 22, 2015

Lizzie Mae Adams Beard Pace, 90, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2015, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.

She was born on Feb. 17, 1925, in Weldon, N.C., to Julia Elizabeth and Dan Adams.

Mae graduated from Goldsboro High School in the final graduating class when students only had to complete 11 years.

She graduated in June 1951 as a part of the first class of LPN nursing program in Goldsboro.

Mae served on the State Board of Nursing for several years, as well as president of the North Carolina LPN Association.

She was well known in Goldsboro as a special, caring nurse who loved her patients.

She blessed many patients with her caring and loving spirit and was dearly loved.

She was a faithful and active member of the First Free Will Baptist Church on Ash Street.

She loved to cook for special events at the church and everyone loved her cooking -- especially collards, fried chicken, grape salad, fried cornbread and made-from-scratch biscuits.

She was a faithful contributor to the Free Will Baptist Children's Home in Middlesex by sending birthday cards and money to several children every month.

Mae loved her pets, two cats, Miss Kitty and Sam.

The family will receive friends Sunday, Oct. 25, 2015, from 2 to 3 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a service celebrating Mae's life at 3 p.m. in the chapel with Dr. Henry J. Smith officiating.

Interment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Survivors include her husband, James Franklin Pace; one child, a very special son, Raymond E. Beard Jr. and wife, Donna; one granddaughter, Gina Robinson and husband, Jimmy; and two great-grandsons, Austin and Mason Robinson, of Winterville.

She is also survived by three stepsons, Robert, James and Randy Pace; two sisters, Betty A. Smith and husband, Dr. Henry J. Smith, of Cleveland, Tenn. and Gladys Hartley of Princeton; sisters-in-law, Earlene Strickland and Thelma Strickland, of Goldsboro; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mae was preceded in death by her first husband, Raymond Earl Beard Sr. and brothers, Edgar V. Strickland, Kenneth E. Strickland and T.J. Strickland.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the Free Will Baptist Children's Home, P.O. Box 249, Middlesex, N.C., 27577.
