Julie Mapes passed away at Kitty Askins Hospice Center Monday, July 6, 2015.
She was married to the late retired Maj. Carl Mapes, and resided in Goldsboro following his retirement.
The family will receive friends Thursday, July 9, 2015, from noon to 1 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a service at 1 p.m. in the chapel, with Father Paul Christy presiding. Interment will follow in Willow Dale Cemetery.
She was a very proud and dedicated military wife, who cherished her many travel experiences around the world and the knowledge gained from these travels.
She had a love for life, and always shared a laugh or smile or song with anyone at every opportunity. She will be remembered for her amazing strength, generous personality and lifelong dedication to God.
Mrs. Mapes, a loving mother and grandmother, is survived by her sons, John Mapes and wife, Maureen, and David Mapes; daughter, Carla Hudson and husband, Dwight; and granddaughter, Destiny Mapes.
She is also survived by three sisters, as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Mapes. She was also preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Our family cannot give enough thanks to the amazing staff and volunteers at Kitty Askins Hospice Center, who have become like a second family to us. We will be forever grateful for the special care she was given and the outpouring of love and good times shared.
