JEAN "JEANIE" DEWEY SPICER
Jan. 18, 1948-May 2, 2015
Jean "Jeanie" Dewey Spicer, 67, left this earth peacefully May 2, 2015.
She was born Jan. 18, 1948, in Goldsboro, to the late George Spicer and Jean Spicer.
She was predeceased by her brother, Earnest "Mickey" McCarty.
Jeanie lived the first part of her life in her beloved Goldsboro until her family moved to Richmond, Va., in 1969, where she lived out the rest of her life.
Even though she left North Carolina early in life, Carolina was where her heart stayed. She loved all things Carolina, from James Taylor, whom she went to school with, to the best college basketball team in the world, the Tarheels.
She loved fishing the waters of the beaches she and her family spent time on as a child.
Some of her son's earliest and most cherished memories are sitting on a pier by her side fishing the night away and watching the sun rise together.
Of course, she was a fan of Carolina barbecue, not "the stuff they call barbecue in Virginia." The good stuff.
Jeanie went to school to become a nurse, but because of her emotional connections with her patients, she found out early that was not a role in life that suited her well.
Jeanie devoted her early adulthood to raising her only child, Craig.
Some of her pastimes were gardening, cooking, fishing and breeding miniature poodles.
Her son and grandchildren were the apple of her eye, and probably brought her more joy than anything else.
Those who were fortunate enough to know her, know that she was one of the most kind, generous and good-hearted people we will ever have the pleasure of knowing.
Those left to cherish her memory are her two sisters, Laura Martin and Kirby Spicer; her grandchildren, Jessie Clark, Darcy Spicer and Gannon Spicer; her son, T. Craig Spicer and his wife, Kendra; and way too many poodles.
Her family will be holding a private gathering to celebrate her life.
