PHIL SUTTON

LAGRANGE -- Phillip Mark "Phil" Sutton, 72, passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2015. Phil was born September 11, 1942 in Greene County to the late Leslie Russell Sutton and Jennette Smith Sutton.
Phil and his wife, Dot, owned and operated the City Café in La Grange from 1965-1984 and Sutton Seafood in Goldsboro from 1984-1986. He and his brother, Billy, were later partners in Carolina Motors. Tender-hearted by nature, Phil took great pride in being a man of his word. He always wanted to be on time and loved to joke or needle everyone he came in contact with. He loved to shop and was always looking for the best deal. Phil took great pride in his dapper appearance and always wanted to be well-dressed. Phil was known for his love of the color red. This could be seen in everything from his vehicles to his clothing. He loved NASCAR and was a huge Dale Earnhardt fan. In later years Phil rooted for whomever he drew in the weekly race pool.
A service of remembrance will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. from Rouse Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray Teague and the Rev. Ronnie Hobgood officiating. Interment will be Friday at 11 a.m. from Fairview Cemetery.
Phil cherished his wife and was a role model to his sons and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dot Cruse Sutton; two sons, Steve Sutton of LaGrange and Brent Sutton and wife, Michelle of Kinston; three precious grandchildren, Ty Sutton of Kinston, Kayla Sutton of Wilmington and Wil Sutton of Kinston. In addition to his parents, Phil was preceded in death by his two brothers, Harold Sutton and Billy Sutton.
Phil's family will receive friends Thursday following the service and at other times they will be at the home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rousefh.com.
