DENNIS E. WARD

Dennis Elvin Ward, 74, Seven Springs area, passed away Sunday morning, Nov. 30, 2014, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
The family will receive friends Wednesday morning, Dec. 3, beginning at 10 a.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, to be followed by a service at 11 a.m. in the chapel, with the Rev. Wanda Simmons officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at the new cemetery at Cove City Baptist Church, Cove City.
Mr. Ward, a veteran of the United States Air Force, was a retired English and special education teacher with Wayne County Public Schools, as well as serving as baseball coach, with most of his teaching tenure at Southern Wayne High School.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ward; two daughters, Deborah Lee "Debbie" Lindquist and husband, Todd, of Wilmington and Mary Lisa Hanks and husband, Jim, of Garner; two stepchildren, Quinn Connolly and wife, Alli, of Indiana and Megan Connolly of Greensboro; five grandchildren, Greta Hanks, Richard Lindquist, Evelyn Hanks, Abby Lindquist and Vincent Hanks; two stepgrandchildren, Willa Connolly and Sloan Connolly; a sister, Linda Ward of Cove City; two brothers, Braxton Ward and wife, Patricia, of Wilmington and Randy Ward and wife, Jane, of Farmville; and a sister-in-law, Bernie Ward of Florida.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, John Randolph Ward; his parents, Clyde Wilton Ward and Mary Magdalene Edwards Ward; and a brother, Clyde Wilton Ward Jr.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial gifts be made to either Post 11 or Post 103 of the American Legion, the Local Disabled American Veterans organization or the Wayne Shrine Club.
