HARRY C. COOKE JR.

Harry Cassious Cooke Jr., 76, Goldsboro, passed away Monday at his home.
Harry was born in Wayne County Dec. 23, 1937, to the late Harry Cassious Cooke Sr. and Mary Louise Smith Cooke.
He was a graduate of Mount Olive High School, and attended Hampton Sydney College.
Harry proudly served his country in the United States Army during 1959 to 1961, and retired from Cherry Hospital.
He was a member of Saint Paul United Methodist Church.
Harry was a member of Elks Lodge No. 139 B.P.O.E. and Herman Park Center Bridge Club.
He dedicated much of his adult life to coaching boys at the Boys and Girls Club of Wayne County.
Harry will be remembered by many as an avid sports fan, as well as a master gardener.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014, at Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive, with the Rev. Jim Harry officiating.
The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the cemetery.
Harry is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Sykes and husband, Marion Sykes, of Mount Olive; sons, Harry Cooke III and wife, Meg, of Greenville and Jeffrey Cooke of Goldsboro; sister, Ann Cooke Britt of Franklin, Va.; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given in Harry's memory to the Boys and Girls Club of Goldsboro, 1401 Royall Ave., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
