Gary Gene Thornton, 59, died peacefully Tuesday morning at his home surrounded by his family.
Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Harvey Preston Thornton and Bessie Jordon Thornton.
He was also preceded in death by his sister, Judy Coker.
He was a member of Eureka Christian Church, and was formerly employed with AP Parts.
A service to celebrate Gary's life will be held Thursday evening at 7 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, with the Rev. Frank Purvis officiating.
Family members will greet friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
He is survived by a son, Chris Thornton and his wife, Angie; his fiancée, Terri Myrick; brothers, Shelton Thornton and wife, Irene, Rayvon Thornton and wife, Rita, Preston Thornton and wife, Carolyn, Gordon Thornton and wife, Jenny, and Harold Thornton and wife, Kathy; his sisters, Violet Thornton and Frances Capps and husband, James; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Coker; his grandchildren, Cole Thornton and Parker Thornton; and his dog, Buck.
