Delmas "Del" Gray Britt, 80, departed his earthly life Saturday, July 26, 2014, at Kitty Askins as his loving and devoted family was close at hand in Goldsboro, N.C.

Delmas was born in Wayne County Dec. 17, 1933, to the late George Carl and Omega Cherry Britt.

Upon graduating from Calypso High School in 1952, he worked for DuPont in Kinston, N.C., before entering the United States Army July 2, 1954. He proudly served his country.

Following his military service, he attended North Carolina State University, where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Textiles in 1965. He was a true Wolfpacker.

He then worked at Allied Chemicals, Chemstrand and Hickory Finishing, and then retired from Holyoke Machine Co. out of Massachusetts, where he was a textile sales representative over several states.

He was a member of the Charlotte Ski Club and Grand Lodge (Cary), and enjoyed snow skiing, playing bridge and playing golf.

Delmas reunites with his beloved wife, Susan Bennett Britt, who passed away May 5, 2013, and whom he missed so very much.

Along with his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, George Carl and Omega Cherry Britt; two brothers, Carlie Britt and Cornia McKay Britt; and a brother-in-law, John Thomas Matthis.

Delmas is survived by two sisters, Mildred Britt Matthis of Kenansville and Glenda Britt Beavers and husband, Keith, of Mount Olive; a sister-in-law, Nancy Holt Britt of Albertson, a brother, Carl Neverne Britt and wife, Shelvia, of Faison; brother-in-law, Calvin Brooks Bennett and wife, Sally, of Raleigh; many beloved nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and several great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

A graveside service to remember him and his life will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2014, in Devotional Gardens, Warsaw, N.C., with the Rev. Phyllis Vail officiating.

The family will greet friends following the service at the cemetery.

We would like to give a very special thank you to wonderful staff at Kitty Askins Hospice Center for the love and care it provided for Delmas during his final days. Simple words cannot express our gratitude.

Memorials may be given in Delmas' memory to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 204 E. Chestnut St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.

Psalm 23:4: "Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me."
