MILDRED H. CRONE

Mildred Anne Hancock Crone, 83, former Mount Olive resident, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2014, at the Oaks of Mayview in Raleigh.
Mrs. Crone was born in Warrenton, N.C., Dec. 9, 1930, to Peyton Palmore "P.P." and Bonnie Fox Hancock.
Mrs. Crone was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 55 years, Charles William Crone Sr.
Mrs. Crone is survived by her three sons, Charles William "Bill" Crone of Raleigh, Robert Peyton "Bob" Crone and his wife, Regina McGill Crone, of Raleigh and James Bradley "Brad" Crone and his partner, Clark Alan Coggin, of Raleigh and daughter-in-law, Angie Latham Crone of Raleigh.
She had five grandchildren, Kathleen Latham Crone of Charleston, S.C., Madeline McGill Crone of Raleigh, Robert Peyton Crone Jr. of Raleigh, Palmer McGill Crone of Raleigh and Margaret Grace Crone of Raleigh.
Mrs. Crone was a graduate of Mount Olive High School. She held an A.B. degree from Queens College in Charlotte and a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
She married Charles W. Crone Dec. 27, 1952, and traveled with him to his United States Air Force station in Laredo, Texas.
The couple moved back to North Carolina in 1955, living in Greenville, Wilson and Clayton.
As a classroom teacher, Mrs. Crone worked in the Greenville City schools and Johnston County public schools.
She was active in numerous civic and community organizations, including service on the board of directors for the Hocutt-Ellington Public Library in Clayton and the Steele Memorial Library in Mount Olive.
She was active in her churches, including leadership roles in Horne Memorial United Methodist Church and First Methodist Church in Mount Olive, after growing up in Mount Olive Presbyterian Church.
She was an avid bridge player, and spent many hours enjoying the game of skill as a bridge club member and with her online friends and bridgemates, including her close friend, Robert Johnson of Plattsburg, N.Y.
The family wishes to acknowledge the kind care giving of Dr. Jim Parsons, M.D., of Raleigh, N.C., and his staff, as well as the excellent care at Mayview and Independence Village during the last few years of her life.
The family also wishes to recognize her longtime aide, Geraldene Barksdale of Mount Olive, now deceased, and her nurses, Brenda Smith of Garner and Fatou Mbye of Raleigh.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held Sunday, June 29, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Mount Olive, 120 E. James St., Mount Olive.
A reception will be held immediately after the service in the church fellowship hall.
A private burial service for the family will conclude services Sunday afternoon.
The family will accept flower arrangements at Tyndall Funeral Home and at the residence of Brad Crone and Clark Coggin at 3318 Ridgecrest Court, Raleigh, N.C., 27607.
Memorial gifts can be made to the following organizations: First United Methodist Church of Mount Olive or Steele Memorial Library of Mount Olive.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Tyndall Funeral Service of Mount Olive.
