MOUNT OLIVE -- Peggy Taylor Chalk, 76, longtime resident of the Mount Olive area, passed away early Tuesday morning, Jan. 28, 2014, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.
Her family will receive friends at Tyndall Funeral Home Thursday, Jan. 30, from 4 to 6 p.m. and at other times, at the residence of Mickey and Donna Whitfield in the Indian Springs community.
In accordance with her wishes, a private graveside service will be held, and will be conducted by the Rev. Michael L. "Mickey" Whitfield.
A native of Goldsboro, she was the daughter of the late James Leonard Taylor and Nora Corrine Dail Taylor.
While she held various jobs during her working life, a majority was that of being a waitress.
She had attended Rooty Branch Free Will Baptist Church, and had made a profession of faith many years ago.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Shelia and Richard Gambill of Dudley and Donna and the Rev. Mickey Whitfield of Mount Olive; four grandsons, Philip Ray "Phil" Gambill and wife, Amy, of Dudley, Kenneth "Billy" Gambill of Illinois, the Rev. Josh Whitfield and wife, Allison, of Deep Run and Taylor Whitfield and wife, Brandy, of Mount Olive; six great-grandchildren, Seth, Liam and Annabelle Gambill and Jack, Abby and Callie Whitfield; two stepgrandchildren, Chayton and Calvin Burleson; and two special nieces, Gwen Vaughn and Vickie Wallace and husband, Butch, all of Goldsboro.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Smith and Connie Yandell, and a nephew, James L. "Jay" Taylor Jr.
