MOUNT OLIVE -- Mrs. Bernice Tyndall Powell, 84, Pleasant Grove community near Mount Olive, died early Sunday morning, Jan. 19, 2014, at Vidant Pitt Medical Center in Greenville.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 11 a.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, officiated by the Rev. Mark Hobbs, with burial following at Pineview Cemetery, Seven Springs.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home during the hour before the service, and at other times, at the Powell residence.
Memorial gifts may be made to Snow Hill Free Will Baptist Church, c/o Danielle Lane, 684 Scott's Store Road, Mount Olive, N.C., 28365.
Mrs. Powell, a native of Lenoir County, was a longtime member of Snow Hill Free Will Baptist Church, was a poultry farmer alongside her husband, the late Jamie O. Powell, and had been employed in the deli-bakery at Mount Olive Piggly Wiggly.
She is survived by two daughters, Annelle Powell Hobbs and husband, Samuel, of Faison and Jenean Powell Kennedy and husband, Damon, of Mount Olive; five grandchildren, Justina Parker Smith of Faison, Janelle Parker of Mount Olive, J. Parker and wife, Dr. Joell Parker, of Wallace, Jessi Kennedy and Kassi Kennedy Turnage and husband, Stacy, all of Mount Olive; five great-grandchildren, Ryan Parker, Dylan Parker, Chloe Turnage, Anabella Peach Parker and Colt Kennedy; a sister, Florence Hoffman of Asheville; three brothers, Paul Tyndall and John Tyndall both of Asheville and Raymond Tyndall of Virginia Beach, Va.; and many nieces and nephews.
