CARY -- George Frank Styron Jr., 84, Cary, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, at Hospice of Wake County.
Mr. Styron was born Oct. 20, 1928, in Goldsboro, N.C., to the late George Frank Styron Sr. and Myrtle Waters Styron.
He was a graduate of Woodward Academy in Atlanta, Ga., and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Upon honorable discharge from the United States Marine Corps as a master sergeant, he was employed with Progress Energy, and retired with more than 30 years of service.
A member of the Kiwanis Club in Wilmington, N.C., he was the 1963 "Kiwanian of the Year."
Mr. Styron served as president of the South Carolina Industrial Developers Association in 1978. He was recognized for outstanding leadership and distinguished service to the Carolinas Chapter 2nd Marine Division Association in 2002.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Cary.
Mr. Styron was preceded in death by his sister, Frances Styron Adams of Tucson, Ariz.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Anne Fouche Styron; son, George Frank Styron III and his wife, Tracy, of Cary; daughters, Suzanne Edwards and her husband, Jerry Edwards, captain United States Navy, of Dyersburg, Tenn., and Cynthia Andereck and her husband, David, of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; and five grandchildren, Mark Edwards and wife, Sarah, of Atlanta, Medwyn D. McClelland of Columbia, S.C., Sarah Anne Edwards of Birmingham, Ala., and Haleigh and Lindsey Styron of Cary.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home chapel, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary, N.C., 27511, with the Rev. Miller Murphy officiating.
The family will receive friends 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
