DAVIS L. HARVELL

Davis Lee Harvell, 84, passed away early Saturday morning at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family.

Davis was born in Duplin County on May 7, 1929, to the late Robert Henry Harvell and Annie Moore Harvell. He was married to the late Linda Geraldine Hudson Harvell.

For 24 years, Davis served the citizens of Goldsboro as a police officer and retired as the assistant chief of police for the city of Goldsboro. He later went to work with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and retired in 2003 after 23 years of service. Davis was a member of Jefferson United Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends Monday, July 29, 2013, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Jefferson United Methodist Church, followed by a service to celebrate his life at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Alice Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Davis is survived by his daughters, Sue Carter and husband, Stanley, and Cathy Nichols and husband, Donald, of Goldsboro; two granddaughters, Krystal Epps Howard and husband, Billy, of Wilmington and Erica Lynn Nichols and Bobby Lane of Goldsboro; stepgrandson, Josh Carter and wife, Ashley; and stepgreat-grandson, Joshua Carter. He is also survived by one brother, Bobby Harvell of Wallace; and sisters-in-law, Geraldine Harvell and Sarah Harvell.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia H. Rouse; and two brothers, Frances Henry Harvell and Ransom Carr Harvell.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Jefferson United Methodist Church, 1100 N. Jefferson Ave., Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
