DUDLEY -- Rebecca "Beckie" Matthews Surles, 75, passed away Friday, April 5, 2013, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her family.
A service to celebrate her life will be Sunday, April 7, 2013, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Dr. Glenn Phillips officiating. Interment will be Monday, April 8, 2013, at 10 a.m. in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
A native of Rocky Mount, she was the daughter of the late James Thomas and Manson Robinson Matthews.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph Graham Surles Jr.; daughters, Teresa Edwards and husband, Alvie Jr. of Chesterfield, Va. and JoAnn Wegman and husband, Mark of Raleigh; son, James Michael Surles of Denver, Col.; grandchildren, Alvie Edwards III and wife, Breena, Douglas Wegman, Tyler Wegman and Dylan Surles; great-grandson, Carter Edwards; and brother, James Matthews and wife, Ester of Ohio.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Joseph Surles III; brother, Billy Matthews; and sister, Virginia Yanco.
The family will receive friends Sunday, April 7, 2013, from 2 to 3 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
Although flowers are welcome, memorials may be given in Beckie's memory to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Ct., Goldsboro, N.C., 27534, or the Wayne County Humane Society, P.O. Box 821, Goldsboro, N.C., 27533.
