GENE EDGERTON
March 3, 1934-Jan. 31, 2013
PIKEVILLE -- Ralph Eugene "Gene" Edgerton, 78, passed away Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his loving family.
Gene was born in Wayne County March 3, 1934, to the late E. Ralph Edgerton and Fannie Bell Grantham Edgerton.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army.
Gene was active in the Nahunta community over the years, where his love of community showed through his many projects.
Gene was a farmer in the Nahunta Community, and was a member of Nahunta Friends Church.
Funeral services will be held Saturday Feb. 2, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Eric Woods officiating. Interment will follow at Edgerton Family Cemetery.
Gene is survived by his wife, Jean Crawford Edgerton; his son, Sonny Edgerton of Pikeville; grandson, Ryan Eugene Edgerton; brothers, E.H. Edgerton of Burleson, Texas, and Jim Edgerton and wife, Marilyn, of Garner; sister, Geneva E. Howell and husband, Henry, of Garner; stepdaughters, Edith Cook of Pikeville, Terry Woods and husband, Joe, of Asheville and Tammy Taylor and husband, Phillip, of Nahunta; stepson, Eddie Sasser of Pikeville; several nieces and nephews; and nine grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mable Thompson Edgerton.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Nahunta Friends Church, 2537 N.C. 581 North, Pikeville, N.C., 27863, or to one's favorite charity.
The family will receive friends Saturday Feb. 2, 2013, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
