VERNA MAE TAYLOR

Verna Mae Taylor, 78, passed away Tuesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Duplin County to the late Ernest A. Taylor, Jr. and Rita Taylor, and was married to the late William C. Kalmar and Clarence "June" Lingle Jr.
A retired Duplin County magistrate, Verna was a member of the North Carolina Magistrates Association.
She had served as the past president of the North Carolina Federation of Business and Professional Women's Association, was a member of the Wayne-Duplin Business and Professional Women's Association and was currently serving on the Goldsboro City Council for Handicap and Disabilities.
She was also a founder of Sarah's Refuge Domestic Violence Center, where she served as past president and board member
Graveside services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.
Ms. Taylor is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Amy K. and James G. McCallum of Hillsborough; two grandchildren, Kirby and Leah McCallum; special friends, Ted Burch of Newton Grove and Gail Harper of Kenansville; and her two precious cats, Lucy and Nubbin.
She was preceded in death by a son, Christopher W. Kalmar, and a grandson, Christopher McCallum.
