DUDLEY -- William Terry "Bill" Person, 81, passed away Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Bill was born in Wayne County April 17, 1931, to the late Ike Person and Lula Peele Person.

He was a loving father and husband, as well as a proud owner of Person Tree Service. Bill was known as a stump-grinding man because he made his own stump grinder.

He loved life and country music, and was an avid Elvis fan.

Bill never met a stranger and always liked to travel.

In his later life, although he suffered a stroke and was blind, he always had hoped he would see again. Now he can.

He attended Mays Chapel Free Will Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jeff Daughtry and the Rev. George Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Bill is survived by his wife, Dorothy Tyndall Person; sons, Terry Dean Person of Goldsboro and Leonard Earl Person and wife, Cyndi, of Dudley; stepdaughter, Vicki Kidd and husband, Randy; and brothers, Thomas Person of Benton, La., Gene Person of Pikeville, Larry Person of Four Oaks and Jack Person of Pikeville.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jeremy Person and wife, Liz, Scottie Person and girlfriend, Lyndi, and Chris Person and wife, Amy; two great grandchildren, Taylor Person and Hayden Person; and a special cousin, Anita Peele.

He was preceded in death by four sisters and a brother.

Although flowers are welcome, memorials may be made to May's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, 3831 U.S. 117 Alternate, Dudley, N.C., 28333.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, and at other times at the home.
