JERRY E. HINNANT SR.
March 14, 1935-June 10, 2012
Jerry Elmore Hinnant Sr., 77, passed away Sunday, June 10, 2012, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.
Jerry was born in Wayne County March 14, 1935, to the late Leslie T. and Thelma Elmore Hinnant.
He was employed as an auditor for more than 20 years with the county of Wayne.
Following retirement, Jerry worked as an independent insurance adjuster.
For more than 30 years, Jerry served in the North Carolina National Guard.
Jerry was a longtime member of Madison Avenue Baptist Church. He was devoted to his church, and served as a deacon, sang with the Men of Madison, taught Sunday school and was involved in many activities where he utilized his gifts and abilities to share the love of God.
For many years, Jerry joined others at Wilber's Barbecue for the Tuesday Morning Prayer Group.
Above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
A service to celebrate Jerry's life will be held Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Madison Avenue Baptist Church, with Dr. Bob Fulkerson officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with military honors.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 54 years, Doris C. Hinnant; his daughter, Pam Sloan and husband, Richard; his sons, Jerry E. "Jay" Hinnant Jr. and wife, Kim, and Gregg Hinnant and friend, Michele Cobb; his grandchildren, Jacob Smith, Dylan Hinnant, Collin Hinnant, Justin Baker and MeKenzie Hinnant; and his sister, Barbara H. Head.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 12, 2012, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, and other times at his home.
