James "Jim" MacDougall Norman, 94, died Tuesday, May 15, 2012, in Greensboro.
Jim, the son of Seawell and Margaret MacDougall Norman, was born in Drake, S.C. His family moved to Goldsboro during his early childhood.
He graduated from Goldsboro High School, then attended Louisburg College and North Carolina State University, after which he served in the United States Navy as a Seabee in the South Pacific during World War II.
Jim worked at General Industries in Goldsboro for about 35 years, but may be best known for his work as an artist and an art instructor. He spent many years working with the Arts Council of Wayne County, and received numerous awards for his artwork.
As a resident of the Adamsville community in Goldsboro, he submitted several childhood experiences to a recently published book about this community.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Etta Mae Norman, and a sister, Elizabeth Norman.
He is survived by his son, Ron Norman of Greenville, S.C.; his daughter, Margaret Norman Vap of Greensboro; and his granddaughter, Elizabeth McKeown of Seattle, Wash.
A funeral service will be held at Seymour Funeral Home Friday, May 18, 2012, at 11 a.m.
