FREMONT -- Mrs. Irene Gardner Coley, 87, 2025 Memorial Church Road, Fremont, departed her earthly life peacefully Monday, March 26, 2012, at her residence.
Irene was born in Wayne County March 13, 1925, to the late Rena Phillips Gardner and Dave Gardner.
She was educated in the public schools of Wayne County.
During Mrs. Coley's working years, she worked with Claridge State Nursery.
Funeral service will be conducted Saturday, March 31, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Elm Grove Church Ministries, 118 Booker St., Pikeville, with Dr. Billy Newton officiating. Interment will follow in Fremont Cemetery, 150 Winding Branch Ave., Fremont.
A public viewing will be held Friday, March 30, 2012, at McIntyre Funeral Home and Florist, 900 S. George St., Goldsboro, from 2 to 6 p.m., with the family present to receive friends and other family members from 5 to 6 p.m.
Mrs. Coley leaves to cherish her loving and precious memories her children, three daughters, Bettie Jordan, Tommie Coley, Rena Vaughn and husband, Nathaniel, and a son, Jacob Coley Jr.; a sister, Gertrude Parks; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
The family will assemble at the residence of Mrs. Bettie Jordan, 2025 Memorial Church Road, Fremont, one hour prior to the funeral at 9:50 a.m. in preparation for the funeral procession.
