PIKEVILLE -- Shelby Jean Summerlin, 74, of Big Daddy's Road, passed away Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, at Wake Med in Raleigh.
Funeral services will be held today at 3 p.m. at the chapel of Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home in Fremont. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Fremont. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:30 until 2:45 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the home of her daughter, Janet McBride, 1625 Lancaster Road in Pikeville.
Mrs. Summerlin was preceded in death by her parents, Worth and Thelma Howell Smith and her husband, Johnny Summerlin Sr.
She is survived by her children, Peggy S. Talton and her husband, Ricky A., of Raleigh, Johnny Summerlin Jr. of Pikeville, Janet S. McBride of Pikeville and her husband, Stan, of Wilmington, Bobby R. Summerlin of Pikeville and Tammy S. Williford of Pikeville; six grandchildren, Tommy A. Talton and his wife, Rebekah, Jamie Cassady, Kevin R. Talton and his wife, Emily, Jessica A. Summerlin, Chris Williford and Josh Summerlin; and six great-grandchildren, Summer L. Cassady, Kailey Cassady, Abbygayle G. Talton, J. Tyler Talton, Alana Jean Talton and Bryson Talton.
