MACK ARNOLD

Mack Arthur Arnold, 86, passed away Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, at High Point Regional Hospital.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, Oct. 24, 2011, at St. Benedict's Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. today at Hanes Lineberry North Elm Chapel.
Mr. Arnold was born in Jacksonville, Fla., and moved with his family to Greensboro in 1929. He was educated in the public schools in Greensboro and graduated from N.C. State with a degree in engineering. Prior to college, he served in the Army Air Corps.
He was active in civic affairs as Jaycee vice president, serving twice on Greensboro City Council, Chamber of Commerce director and served two terms as a city councilman. Mr. Arnold was the general chairman of the 1955 GGO and served as the first president of Crescent Rotary Club.
His other activities included flying, golf, boating, scuba diving and horseback riding.
He started his career working with his father, Mack A. Arnold Sr., at Arnold Stone Company and Arnold Vault Company. He also founded Arnold Copy Centers. Mr. Arnold moved to Goldsboro in 1976 to manage Arnold-Wilbert Corporation. He also served as president of the National Concrete Burial Vault Association.
After his retirement in 1986, he was very active in the American Red Cross. He served as disaster chairman of the Cape Fear Chapter when he moved to Wrightsville Beach.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia; sister, Gloria; his daughter, Camille Ellington and husband, Mitch; sons, Arthur, Richard, and George and wife, Laura. He has five grandchildren.
A special thanks goes to the staff at Pennybyrn who superbly cared for Mr. Arnold during the last two years.
