DONNIE SMITH

Donald Morris "Donnie" Smith, Sr., 76, had his homegoing on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011 at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family and the presence of the Lord.
Donnie was born in Wayne County on July 30, 1935 to the late Thaddeus and Laura Smith. He began working at the age of 18 with the United States Department of Agriculture and Donnie enjoyed his work with the Soil and Conservation Division serving in Wayne, Lenoir and Greene Counties with over 58 years of service. He will be remembered for his smile and quick wit, but most of all he loved his family.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at The First Pentecostal Holiness Church with his son, Rev. Morris Smith, his brother, Rev. Waldo Smith, Rev. Bill Rose and Rev. Terry Gainer officiating. Burial will follow in the Smith Family Cemetery.
Donnie is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mabel "Bootsie" B. Smith; his son, Morris Smith and wife Lynn of Florence, S.C.; his daughters, Teresa S. Peele and husband, Mike of Goldsboro, Donna S. Smith and husband, Stan of Goldsboro and Sonja S. Ginn and husband, Steve of Snow Hill; his grandchildren, Misty Deese and husband, Jeff, Hannah Edwards and husband, Jonathan, Jessica Teal and husband Jay, Brooke Smith, Kaleb Ginn, Adayah Ginn, Jadah Ginn, Ariel Ginn and Ryan Mitchell. He was anticipating the birth of his two great-grandchildren in the early part of 2012. Donnie is also survived by his brothers, Waldo Smith and wife,d Christine of Goldsboro and Robert Smith and wife, Saints of Rockingham.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at his home.
