Edith Eleanor Hudson Howell, 75, died Tuesday at Blessed Health Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Dunn, N.C.
She was born in Wayne County to the late Edison Thurman and Louise Whitfield Hudson, and was preceded in death by her husband, Donald H. Howell, and her sister, Joyce H. Noel.
A member of Goldsboro High School Class of 1954, she retired from Southern Bank and Trust Co., and was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church of Goldsboro.
Mrs. Howell was a former member of First Baptist Church of Goldsboro, where she was the church clerk, a former deacon, Sunday school teacher, choir member, youth leader and a member of the Finance Committee.
For 20 years, she and her husband owned and operated the Western Auto Associates Store in downtown Goldsboro.
During the mid 1960s, she worked as the administrative assistant to the director of Cherry Hospital.
A graveside service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Willowdale cemetery, with Bishop Jim Whitfield officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside at the cemetery, and at other times will be at 1908 Salem Church Road, Goldsboro.
Mrs. Howell is survived by a son, Stephen Howell of Buies Creek, N.C.; brother, Edison Hudson of Chapel Hill; three sisters-in-law, Hilda Howell, Lois Howell and Flonnie H. Turner; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, Va., 22312, or the charity of one's choice.
