LAGRANGE -- Jack Howell Jr., 84, LaGrange, passed away Monday, June 13, 2011.
Jack was born May 19, 1927, in Wayne County to the late Jack and Nina Pate Howell.
Jack exhibited a strong faith in God, and was an active member of Walnut Creek Free Will Baptist Church. He served as both Sunday school superintendent and Sunday school teacher for 45 years. He also sang in the choir, and was active in the men's fellowship of the church.
Jack was a passionate cook, gardener, woodworker and landscaper.
He was known for his amazing artistic abilities, and through the years created many beautiful paintings. His love for designing and exhibiting artwork was cherished by his family and collected by many.
Jack worked several years with Efird's Department Store, and then returned home to take care of his parents and work the family farm.
A service of remembrance will be held Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at 7 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tony McLamb officiating. Interment will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery.
Jack is survived by his nieces and nephews, Jimmy Howell, David Williams, Carolyn Grady, Linda Webber, Charles Anderson, Clifton Anderson, Paul Anderson, Ronnie Anderson, Barbara Mapp and Pat Anderson; special great-nieces and nephews, Todd Williams, Holly Hansen and Kelly Race; along with his beloved cats, Blackie and Whitey.
The family will receive friends Tuesday following the service of remembrance, and at other times they will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Todd Williams, 237 N. Beston Road, LaGrange.
