GORDON ELDRIDGE "DON" HARRELL JR.

Gordon Eldridge "Don" Harrell Jr., 62, Goldsboro, died Wednesday morning at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Born in Wayne County, he was the son of Faye J. Harrell of Goldsboro and the late Gordon Eldridge Harrell Sr. He was the husband of Rebecca Gurley "Becky" Harrell.
He attended Brogden United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Kretzu officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home, and at other times at the home of Faye Harrell, 106 Derek Drive.
Burial will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park with military honors.
In addition to his wife and mother, Mr. Harrell is survived by his children, Donald Ray Creech Jr., Anthony Pierce Harrell, Jay Alan Harrell and Rebecca Harper; his stepchildren, James Richard Corbett and Cynthia Lynn Corbett; 13 grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.
He is also survived by his siblings, Randall Pierce Harrell, Cynthia H. Aldridge, Debra H. Owens and Melanie H. Hopkins.
In addition to his father, Mr. Harrell was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Dawn Harrell, and a stepgranddaughter, Taylor Morgan Corbett.
A veteran of the United States Navy, serving five campaigns in Vietnam, Mr. Harrell was a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Navy Unit Commendation.
Mr. Harrell was a member of American Legion Post 11, VFW Post 2615, DAV Donald H. Kirkman Chapter 45, and 40/8 Voiture 1538.
